WordPress Websites Rock and here are 6 reasons why

These days a lot of people start off using WordPress by signing up for an account on WordPress.com for their personal blogs, others install WordPress on their own domain. You start off with a small simple blog and then you start customizing it a bit. A plugin here, a sidebar widget there and now your blog is really rockin’. Within a few weeks you have added a couple of pages and a few more plugins and widgets and your little blog is looking more and more like a full fledged website!

Developers are aware of this experience, as are large corporations like GE, Ben & Jerrys and People Magazine. WordPress developers are offering more and more features by way of plugins or as part of the WordPress core. This allows for the creation of full featured, large scale web sites, while maintaining the ease of use of a small WordPress blog. Companies and individuals are consuming these features faster than ever. Recent reports show that 22 out of every 100 new active domains in the US are running WordPress which is an amazing stat. Here are some of the reasons behind this recent trend:

#1 Large and Active Community
You get several benefits by using a Content Management System (CMS) that has a large community built around it. Bug and security fixes happen much faster and it’s easier to find help with your site when you need it. With thousands of people building sites on WordPress you can be sure this is a supported platform that will be kept updated for the forseeable future.

#2 Free and Open Source
With an open source CMS, you aren’t tied into a single company’s fate. WordPress can never go out of business because it’s not a business. It is also free. Many, many hosting providers offer a simple one-click install of the WordPress software to get you started as quickly and cheaply as possible.

#3 Great Blogging Software Built In
When building a site on another platform you are faced with a decision. What are we going to do about the blog? It can be a lot of work building it from scratch and hosting it externally is not always viable. WordPress is best of breed blogging software – problem solved.

#4 Update Your Site Easily
All Content Management Systems let you update your site, that’s why they exist! WordPress does it with an easy user-friendly interface which can be customized to the exact needs of your site. There are also Android and iOS apps available for updating your site on the go.

#5 Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
WordPress is a great platform for SEO. Being able to update your site easily with fresh content is a vital part of any SEO strategy. WordPress also solves several technical issues related to SEO. Read more about WordPress and SEO here.

#6 Extendable
WordPress sites can start off simple and grow along with your business via the wonderful plugin system. Things like e-commerce, membership sites and photo galleries are all just a few clicks away.

I already listed my personal favorite reason for using WordPress as the #1 item on this list – the community. We are a part of that community so if you have a cool WordPress site to share or a quick question feel free to ask in the comments or on Twitter @BPsocial.

  1. Hello marieke Hensel, Themelis Cuiper here from Amsterdam

I really agree, we have turned our business into WordPress hosting
dropping the activities in other blogging CMS like Joomla, Drupal in favor of WordPress just for the reasons You named.

customizing is fast in each CMS but scalability and the market for free plugins to WP is enormous, the templates do not look like the stale first “blogs” anymore, a WordPress can change into anything from recipes to directories to e-shops

The SEO is one of the main reasons we are in love with WP !

Hi Themelis! Thanks for the comment. We obviously agree with your sentiments on WordPress and are looking forward to new improvements the WordPress team throws our way for 2012. Personally I’m hoping for even greater support for CMS features to really allow site owners some deeper editing and content creation tools. Any killer features you are waiting on ?
