Your business has personality

June 25th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Everyone has a personality. And so does your business. People have an opinion about your company, based on their interpretation of your style.

So what is the style of your business? Is your business formal and do you mainly work with corporate clients? Or are you a creative company that inspires people with new ideas? In all cases, people like to work with your company if they see in you what they are looking for. So if you are a very formal company and you meet your clients in jeans – that doesn’t reflect the style of your company and the people you are meeting – are wondering which one you are: formal or informal.

To repeat your style, you are showing everyone what your company is all about, what your style is all about. People will understand your business and it is comforting as they know and start building trust in what you can deliver.

Does your business reflect who you want to work with? Is your style reflected in your communications? Brainstorm and write characteristics down of yourself, of your clients. Come up with a shortlist of the characteristics that you want to reflect in the personality of your business. How can you repeat these characteristics in other communications, your style, your brand, … you?

What does your logo say about your personality? What does your newsletter say about your personality? What does your business card say about your personality? What does your website say about your personality?

Your business has personality, make sure it stands out in the most attractive way you can imagine.

Personality is what sets you apart and makes you unique. Although sometimes I think it’s easy to think that having a company with personality is inappropriate in the business world. So few do that it’s easy to think “well I guess this is just the expectation.” I really want my startup http://tastynectar.com/blog to have a personality all it’s own.

    Yes, everyone has a personality.

But, I think, not every business personality is so great to show it up.
I think, it happens not because there are bad ones, but mostly because business personality is compound.

Having business personality you are talking about is great. And I agree, next to writing down the characteristics to reflect, one should implement them in herself.

Energy is really important in personalising your business. When a client of customer walks through the door or phones you, there must be an excitement that is going to make the person buy from you. I think it comes down to people loving their industry or work.

I agree that energy and interest in the business are key. Many people start up businesses without understanding or loving what they do. This can be projected in how the business owner deals with his or her customers or clients.
