Facebook Fan Page Timeline Tutorial [Infograph]
by Robert Gembarski+ on March 16, 2012
As most of you know, all Facebook Pages will be converted over to the Timeline format by the end of the month. Recently, I came across a great info graph that covers all of the changes along with some of regulations that Facebook will be enforcing with the new changes. I will break each one down to make them easier to understand so that Facebook doesn’t take it upon themselves to change up your page without your knowledge. (They have recently done this to one of our clients with out warning!)
Cover Photo
The cover photo will now be approximately 399 px wide, stretching pretty much across the entire top section of the page. With this change, come a few regulations. Your cover photo may no longer contain any type of advertisement for your product, any product promotion or discounts, and no more links to your website or product page. The photos cannot be misleading nor give anyone else incentive to upload your photo as their own cover photo.
Exclusion: QR Codes. As of now you can still have QR codes embedded into your cover photo to connect to your fans.
Profile Picture
The new profile picture is now smaller then the last, at only 125 x 125px. Similar regulations apply to the profile picture but you can still get creative with it!
Message Button
Forget about a contact form! Now with the new message button on timeline, Facebook users can directly message the page owners. The little wheel button to the right provides a dropdown box that allows users to like, share, provide feedback, and favorite pages. This is basically a one-stop shop for users to interact with your page.
Page Tabs
Page tabs have been moved from the left-hand side of the page to right next to the about section in a nice row underneath the cover photo. There are only 4 slots visible including a drop down box. You can still have numerous tabs, but they will all appear in the dropdown box except the three you choose to fill the 4 slots on the page. The first slot is your photos and is not editable or moveable as of now. The other three slots can be interchanged and have the images swapped out to what ever you would like to upload or pointed toward somewhere else on the Internet.
About Section
The new about section is much smaller then the old one and only shows one line of text. This section does allow you to share links to your page as well as pertinent contact information.
No More Landing Pages
With the timeline format, Facebook has done away with landing pages. From now on, fans will be brought to your timeline page right away. Although you will still have the ability to require that they like your page before they can see any of your content.
There are a few other new features that go along with the timeline format change, but I’ll let you check out the Infograph below to see what they are. Some of them might just surprise you a little bit…
