I think "talking to people, dont be shy" is a very valid point. Alot of business has turned to the internet however it is still important to hit the pavement and get on the phone to people. Motion makes motion to speak.

Yes Marieke, during our offline Corporate Image and Personal Branding Workshops we discuss the idea of creating visibility which you mention. It does mean that we need to take the initiative during networking events to make ourselves known to the relevant people. However it must be emphasised that if you discover that someone is not really interested in your product or service the worst thing you can do is cut the conversation short and suddenly walk away. Even though they may not have a need for your service there is the chance they will know someone else who does, so just hand them your card saying maybe they would know someone who could use your service. Then ask for their card saying that you might be able to do business with them sometime. Sounds a bit like the old Holywood movies where the detective hands his card to the reluctant witness saying "if you remember anything just give me a bell"!
